A team of Brisbane-based researchers from the Queensland University of Technology has taken out the Postdoctoral Research Award at this year’s virtual International Society for Biofabrication Twitter Poster Conference.

Dale Neville (past Bionics Challenge winner) together with Dr Naomi Paxton, Dr Yanan Xu, Jayanti Mendhi and Breanna Devlin won the global accolade for their poster, “Mechanical testing microfiber scaffolds to accelerate innovation in melt electrowriting scaffold design”.

Regarding the primary motivation underpinning the research, the team noted: “There is no established consensus in the literature on the role of cell seeding and tissue maturity on the mechanical properties of scaffolds.

“Developing advanced methods to investigate the longitudinal performance of scaffolds mechanics during in vitro tissue maturity is vital to accelerate biofabrication research.”
